MCBA Second Annual Coyote Contest - June 2008
It
is a well know fact that coyotes are a top predator of Blacktail Deer. Along with
the Mountain Lion they account for nearly 90 percent of all Blacktails lost to
predation. It is not only the deer herd that is impacted by these high numbers,
it is all native species. Years gone by are the sustainable balance that was achieved
by trapping and the fur trade. If you would like to help increase the survival rate of the counties Blacktail Deer the the hunt will take place between June 1st and July 28th, 2008.

MCBA and UCeravis team up on the public lands research.
Heiko wittmer ungulate scientist @ uc davis, and MCBA, have begun a proposal ; Its focal point is, to determine the main factors in which are suspect in the major decline of public land deer herds. the study will analize private land ranches and determine why their herds are larger, and compare public land to which have significantly lower numbers. This will give pertinent data to which can be used to manage public lands better.Items for study include collaring lions, coyotes, bears.and fawns to determine densities of species, new predation ratios, and mortality factors, along with measuring habitat nutritional composition between public land , and private. This is necessary for our new plan MCBA is implementing.
